The story

An Oklahoma rancher with a bad knee, a dry wit, and zero patience for being bossed around by a barista half her age — that was Scout Cloud Lee, the gay cowgirl who became Vanuatu's quiet swing vote. Ami Cusack's women's alliance had the men dead to rights, dumping Sarge 7-1-1 and Chad 6-2 until Chris Daugherty was the last man standing against six women. But Scout and Twila Tanner, the older pair, were never really part of Ami's young core, and that was the crack Chris went looking for.

He found it. Scout and Twila flipped, the new four blindsided Leann 4-3, then turned the knives inward — Ami gone 4-2, Julie 3-2 — and the all-female finale Ami had been one vote from went up in smoke. Trouble was, the man Scout rode there had no intention of taking her to the end. Chris ran the table on the final immunities, cut Eliza 3-1, and dropped Scout to sit beside Twila, the goat he could actually beat. She went out third and watched him collect the crown 5-2. Picking the winning side and still getting left a step short of the seat — that's the sly, slow-played game of one of the early era's craftiest older players.
