Travis "Bubba" Sampson was a member of Vanuatu's Lopevi tribe who tried to play the middle — quietly working a side deal to protect himself as the season's gender war heated up. It was a savvy instinct, executed a beat too openly.
Word of his maneuvering got back to the tribe, and Lopevi voted him out in thirteenth in a near-unanimous response to the perceived betrayal. A cautionary tale about playing both sides before you've secured either.
