Sometimes the vote isn't about strategy, it's about who can still pull on the rope. Jerry Sims was the steady older guy on Timbira, sharing a beach with Coach Wade and the rest of Tocantins' big talkers, until illness flattened him early and his strength started to go right as the tribe kept losing challenges.
By the third Tribal, Timbira had a choice between a sick Jerry and the prickly Erinn Lobdell, and a fading body is the painless cut every time — they sent him out fourteenth on a 6-1 vote while Brendan sat there quietly holding the idol he'd just dug up. The gut-punch: Erinn, the one they kept instead, rode that reprieve all the way to third. Jerry never got the merge, never got to show what a healthy version of his game looked like.
