Two individual immunities, a spot in Rob's six, and a body built for challenges — on paper Grant Mattos looked like a finalist lock, the muscle on Boston Rob's Ometepe machine. The former NFL wide receiver turned yoga guy marched in lockstep with the alliance and never gave Rob a reason to doubt him. The problem with being Rob's strongest soldier, though, is that Rob keeps count better than anyone who's ever played.
Down to the core of his own alliance, Rob did exactly what he'd been doing all season: trimming his own numbers to reach the end beside people he could beat. He'd already cut Andrea the week before, and Grant — his most loyal ally and the biggest challenge threat left — was the obvious next name. No flip, no scramble, no idol; Rob just decided it was time, voted him out sixth, and shipped him to Redemption Island, where Ralph lost the next duel and beat him to the jury bench. Grant did nothing wrong, and that's exactly why he's a perfect Ometepe story — the whole arc was loyal soldiers getting filed away one by one until Rob walked off with it 8-1-0.
