The first alliance in Survivor history didn't wait for the other tribe to lose — it ate its own first. Dirk Been was the devout young dairy farmer on Tagi, the kid who brought his Bible to the island and never quite clicked with the four-person bloc Richard Hatch had just locked down with Rudy, Kelly, and Sue. While Pagong was still wandering around assuming this was every-man-for-himself, Tagi had already figured out that voting as one meant they got to choose when to trim the dead weight.
So instead of waiting on an outsider to slip up, the four turned inward and pointed at Dirk, the one guy inside the tribe who didn't fit the plan. They voted as a single block and sent him home twelfth, 4-1-1 — the alliance proving it would cut on its own schedule, not the challenge's. Dirk barely got to play before the people who wrote the rules used him to show exactly how they worked.
