Survivor: Cagayan · Season 28

Episode Guide

How Survivor: Cagayan unfolded, week by week.

  1. 1Hot Girl With a GrudgeFeb 26, 2014Eighteen strangers hit the beach, sorted into Brawn, Brains, and Beauty, and Probst springs the twist right away: each tribe elects a leader, and that leader's first job is to banish one of their own. The two-hour premiere runs two separate Tribal Councils. The Brains lose first and, in full panic, vote out their own leader David Samson for talking too much strategy too soon. Then the Brawn drop one and turn on poker pro Garrett Adelstein, too nervous about his brain-and-brawn combo to keep him around. Two players gone in a single night, 18th and 17th, and the season's signature chaos is already loose.
  2. 2Cops-R-UsMar 5, 2014Tony Vlachos tells everyone he works in construction, never once mentions he's a cop, and basically never sits still. He clocks fellow officer Sarah Lacina early, and the two quietly lock in their 'Cops-R-Us' pair. Over on Beauty, the tribe is already turning on itself; the majority freezes out Brice Johnston, who drops a deadlocked revote to become the night's 16th-place boot.
  3. 3Our Time to ShineMar 12, 2014The Brains keep losing, and instead of pulling together they come apart at the seams. Staring down yet another trip to Tribal, J'Tia Taylor knows she's on the bottom with no numbers to save her, and she snaps, dumping the tribe's entire pot of rice into the fire out of pure spite. It torches her own camp's food supply for nothing, because the vote was always coming for her. J'Tia goes out 15th, leaving just Spencer and Tasha to pick through the ashes, and the rice meltdown lands as an instant pre-merge disaster.
  4. 4Odd One OutMar 19, 2014The first swap blows up the original tribes and drops everyone into fresh alliances, and overnight old loyalties count for nothing. On the new beach, NBA big man Cliff Robinson and his number Lindsey come up short on the numbers and out of step with the group. Tony, already counting votes three moves ahead of the room, spots a pair worth breaking up before it can gel. He works the swing and gets Cliff blindsided in 14th, peeling Lindsey loose for later.
  5. 5We Found Our ZombiesMar 26, 2014An ugly stretch of camp life. The long-simmering tension between Lindsey Ogle and Trish Hegarty finally boils over into a face-to-face screaming match, and Lindsey decides to walk rather than do something she'll regret, quitting in 13th. The tribe still owes a vote, and Alexis Maxwell is the one sent home in 12th.
  6. 6Head of the SnakeApr 2, 2014The merge hits, and the idols come out for nothing. Warned that a strange new idol is floating around, LJ and Tony both get spooked and burn idols on each other, even though nobody had cast a vote either man's way. Sarah Lacina can't decide which side she's on, and Kass McQuillen flips at the worst possible moment, leaving Sarah blindsided as the first member of the jury. As her torch is snuffed she spins around, demanding to know who turned. Chaos Kass has arrived.
  7. 7Mad Treasure HuntApr 9, 2014An all-out idol scramble takes over camp, and Tony comes up holding the prize: a special super-idol he can play after the votes are read, the most powerful advantage the game had produced to that point. With idols stuffed in his pocket, his side keeps chipping away at the old Beauty bloc, and Morgan McLeod is the next to go in 10th.
  8. 8Bag of TricksApr 16, 2014Tony does the most Tony thing imaginable and turns on his own right-hand man. Sitting on a stockpile of idols and loyal to nothing but the win, he engineers a blindside of LJ McKanas, the biggest all-around threat left in the game. LJ takes it like a gentleman, offering a quiet 'Well played' as his torch goes out in 9th.
  9. 9Sitting In My Spy ShackApr 23, 2014Welcome to the spy shack. Tony builds a little hut of branches by the well so he can hide inside and eavesdrop on everyone's strategy talk, equal parts absurd and brilliant. At Tribal he flashes a fake idol to bait Spencer into burning his real one; Spencer plays it and saves himself, but the bluff still steers the vote onto Jeremiah Wood, who finishes 8th.
  10. 10Chaos Is My FriendApr 30, 2014The majority starts to splinter, and Kass leans all the way into her agent-of-chaos edit, flipping on a whim just to watch the plan fall apart. Stuck on the wrong side of the numbers, Spencer starts winning immunity to keep himself in the game. He can't cover his allies too, though, and Jefra Bland gets picked off in 7th.
  11. 11Havoc to WreakMay 7, 2014Spencer is in full win-or-go-home territory now, the last real threat to Tony's control, and he scraps for every challenge. He can't hand the necklace to his allies too, so when immunity slips away the majority turns to the other comp beast and sends Tasha Fox to the jury in 6th.
  12. 12Straw That Broke The Camel's BackMay 14, 2014The straw that breaks the camel's back, and Tony is the one who snaps it. Spencer wins immunity yet again, which forces the core four to turn on one of their own, and Tony does not hesitate: he cuts loose Trish Hegarty, his most loyal ally all game, blindsiding her at 5th. If Tony will vote out Trish, Tony will vote out anyone, and the jury is watching him do exactly that.
  13. 13It's Do or DieFinaleMay 21, 2014Finale night, and there's no fire-making fallback; both the final four and the final three come down to a straight vote. At four, Kass wins immunity and Spencer makes one last pitch for Tony to flip, but Tony stays loyal to Woo, and Spencer heads to the jury in 4th. Then Woo wins the final immunity and faces the decision fans still argue about: take the beatable Kass, or take the bigger threat in Tony. Tony talks him into honoring their bond, Woo brings him to the end, and Kass finishes 3rd. At Final Tribal the jury barely deliberates, handing Tony the title 8–1 over Woo and one of the most dominant new-school games the show had seen.
