When JD Robinson handed Shan Smith his extra-vote advantage on Ua for 'safekeeping,' the rookie superfan never saw it coming back — and it never did. The D.C. pastor pocketed it, helped send JD home 3-1, and spent the rest of Survivor 41 playing the loudest, busiest game on the beach. She found an idol, ran her mouth and the votes in equal measure, and paired off with Ricard Foyé into the season's scariest duo. By the merge, nobody on that cast was guessing where Shan stood, and a whole lot of them were tired of it.
A pair that dangerous can't both make the end, so once the merge math tightened the group decided to take the louder, more dangerous half first. At the final eight they came for Shan, the Tribal deadlocked, and on the revote she went out eighth, voted out 4-0 with an idol still in her bag, the fourth juror. Ricard skated one more round as the quieter half of the duo before they finally took him out 5-3. I'll always think she got cut a beat early — Shan was the most watchable player of the season and never once coasted, and watching her go out with that idol unplayed still stings.
