Rodger Bingham — "Kentucky Joe" — was the soul of The Australian Outback: a soft-spoken farmer and schoolteacher who looked utterly out of place among the younger castaways and quietly outlasted nearly all of them. Underestimated at every turn, he proved tougher and steadier than anyone expected, and his tender, almost father-daughter friendship with Elisabeth Filarski became one of the early show's most genuinely touching bonds.
He rode that loyalty and grit on the Kucha tribe all the way to fifth, a finish that delighted the audience rooting for the everyman. One of the original era's most cherished good guys.
