JoAnna Ward was a devout school guidance counselor whose strong faith and stronger opinions never let the Jaburu women forget she was around. Her religious convictions didn't stay private — she objected to keeping the tribal immunity idol in camp, treating the carving as a graven image she wanted nowhere near her, and when Jaburu went hungry she gathered the tribe to pray over a single tiny fish. At night she'd let her feelings about the idol's presence be heard loud and long, and her singing and praising at camp put a wedge between her and the women who didn't share it.
The flashpoint was Christy Smith. When word got back to JoAnna that Christy thought her stance on the idol was stupid, the two went at it, JoAnna stormed off, and Christy was left in tears. But the younger women were already aligning against her, and within a couple of votes the tribe turned on JoAnna, sending her out thirteenth on day twelve.
