How it works

Two castaways meet on a padded platform over the water, each armed with a cushioned bag. No hands — just swing, shove, and bump until one of you splashes into the sea. First to a set number of knockdowns wins.

Why it's iconic

A gladiatorial fan favorite for years — staged for immunity in Palau and Fiji and for reward in Heroes vs. Villains — until Probst confirmed the show had quietly retired its full-contact combat challenges to keep players safe.

The moment

It ran in water and in mud over the years — Fiji's version was even rebranded “Kung Fu Cannibals,” and Heroes vs. Villains fought it out in a mud pit.
