Last Gasp
How it works
Float beneath a steel grate as the tide rises, keeping your face in a shrinking pocket of air. Bail when you can't take it — the last one still breathing wins.
Why it's iconic
First run in Palau and revived through Micronesia, Caramoan, and as recently as Survivor 43 and 44. In S43 the tide itself gave out after nearly three hours, and Probst named two co-winners — one of the most nerve-wracking tests the game has ever staged.
The moment
In Survivor 43 the tide receded before anyone cracked, so after nearly three hours Jeff called it and handed immunity to both Karla and Owen — a first for the challenge.
