The Fire-Making Challenge

Also known as Fire at Four

How it works

A head-to-head race to build a fire tall enough to burn through a raised rope. Strike sparks from flint, coax a flame through tinder, and feed it up a tower of kindling — first rope to snap earns a seat at the Final Tribal Council.

Why it's iconic

Since Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, the Final 4 has ended this way: the last immunity winner picks one person to take to the end, and the other two make fire for the final spot. It turned a survival skill into the highest-stakes coin-flip in the game — and made “do you trust your fire?” a defining new-era question. It grew out of the old fire-making tiebreaker for deadlocked votes, last seen at the Kaoh Rong final four.
