The story

Denise Martin was China's blue-collar heart — a school cafeteria worker (and former janitor) from Massachusetts whom the Todd alliance happily dragged toward the end as a loyal, beatable number. She lasted all the way to Day 38, voted out one step short of the final three.

Her season is also remembered for an uncomfortable edit — host Jeff Probst has since said he regrets how he handled her story at the final Tribal. A black belt in Kenpo karate, Denise was a far tougher competitor than the 'sympathetic underdog' framing suggested.
