Dan Foley was one of Worlds Apart's most divisive characters, a postal worker from Maine whose condescending treatment of the women — Shirin and Lindsey especially — made him a lightning rod all season. It boiled over at the Tribal Council where Shirin was voted out, when Dan likened his own experience as an adopted child to Shirin's history of domestic violence — 'I don't want to take anything away from Shirin, but I'm an adopted child' — and Probst shut it down on the spot: 'Dan, not to split hairs, but that's a very big difference.' On the island he rode the Blue Collar numbers deep into the merge and won the extra-vote advantage at the Survivor Auction.
His exit was self-inflicted. At the final six he announced he'd use his extra vote on Carolyn and then played it — casting two votes her way — which only scared her into playing the hidden idol she'd held since Day 2. All five votes against her were wiped out, Dan's extra vote wasted along with them, and he went home in the blindside as the sixth juror.
